When workers began renovating a 120-year-old farmhouse, they expected to find little more than old nails and rotten floorboards. Instead, one hammer strike echoed against solid metal beneath the kitchen floor.

After hours of digging, they uncovered a heavy steel safe that had been buried for decades. It had no key, no combination, and no markings except a single date engraved on the front: October 14, 1956.
