The downtown streets were crowded with people rushing home as luxury cars passed beneath the evening lights.
Thomas Calloway walked quickly through the city wearing an expensive suit while talking to his assistant on the phone.
Most people moved aside without even looking at him.
But as Thomas passed an old homeless veteran sitting quietly on a bench, the man suddenly spoke.
“You still walk too fast, Tommy.”
Thomas froze instantly.
Slowly, he turned around in shock.
Nobody had called him “Tommy” since he was a teenager.
The old veteran looked up with tired eyes and gave a weak smile beneath his gray beard.
Thomas stared silently for several seconds before whispering:
“Eddie…?”
Suddenly, memories rushed back into his mind.
Two young boys running through muddy streets together.
Fishing by the river after school.
Then years later — standing side by side in military uniforms overseas.
During combat many years earlier, an explosion separated them during the chaos.
Thomas spent years believing Eddie had died in the war.
After returning home alone, Thomas buried himself in work and eventually became one of the wealthiest businessmen in the city.
But now his childhood best friend sat alone on a cold sidewalk.
Tears filled Thomas’s eyes.
“I searched for you everywhere,” he whispered emotionally.
Eddie smiled sadly and quietly replied:
“No, Tommy… you just forgot where to look.”
Without caring who was watching, the millionaire dropped to his knees and hugged his old friend tightly in the middle of the crowded street.
