Before the world knew him as John Wayne, he was simply Marion Morrison, a young boy growing up in Iowa with no idea that Hollywood would one day make him a legend.

Born in 1907, Wayne spent his early years in California after his family moved west. As a young man, he worked around film studios and eventually found his way into acting. His first years in Hollywood were far from glamorous, with small roles and plenty of setbacks.

Everything changed with Stagecoach in 1939. The film turned Wayne into a major star and helped establish the image that audiences would remember for decades: the tall, confident Western hero with a distinctive voice and unforgettable presence.

Over the following decades, Wayne appeared in some of the most famous Westerns and war films of his generation. Movies such as Red River, The Searchers, Rio Bravo, and True Grit cemented his place in cinema history.

His performance in True Grit finally earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1970.
