The cemetery was silent except for the sound of rain.

Friends, family, and fellow soldiers stood gathered around the grave of a fallen veteran.

Many struggled to hold back tears.

Near the front stood a young boy no older than eight.

Clutched tightly in his hands was a folded flag that had been presented to his family during the ceremony.

The boy stared at the grave for a long moment.

Then he slowly stepped forward.

His small hands trembled.

Tears streamed down his face.

And with all the strength he could find, he raised his hand in a salute.

The crowd fell completely silent.

Several veterans standing nearby immediately returned the salute.

One young soldier began to cry.

After the ceremony, someone gently asked the boy why he had done it.

The boy wiped away his tears and looked at the flag.

“Because my dad always saluted people he respected,” he whispered.

“And he’s still my hero.”

Many people broke down in tears.

In that moment, everyone realized that although the veteran was gone, his courage, honor, and love would live on forever through his son. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
