Every afternoon after school, eight-year-old Sophie walked into the hospital carrying a single flower.
She wasn’t visiting a parent.
She wasn’t visiting a friend.
She wasn’t visiting anyone she knew.
Instead, she went straight to the same elderly man sitting alone by the window.
The nurses noticed her almost immediately.
Day after day, she returned.
She would sit beside him, talk about school, tell him jokes, and place a fresh flower on his table.
The old man’s face would light up every time she arrived.
One afternoon, a nurse finally asked why.
“Do you know him?” she said.
Sophie shook her head.
“No.”
The nurse looked confused.
“Then why do you come here?”
The little girl smiled.
“My grandpa was alone when he died. I don’t want anyone else to feel forgotten.”
The nurse’s eyes filled with tears.
Soon, the entire hospital learned the story.
Other patients began receiving visitors too.
What started with one little girl and one flower became a wave of kindness that spread through the entire hospital.
And the old man never felt alone again.
