Ten years earlier, a little girl stood outside Walker’s Corner Diner staring at a sandwich in the display case.
She looked hungry, but she never asked for help.
The owner, Ethan Walker, noticed her and brought the sandwich outside.
“I don’t have any money,” the girl whispered.
Ethan smiled.
“Then promise me something.”
The little girl looked up.
“When you’re older, help someone who needs it.”
She nodded.
“I promise.”
Years passed, and Ethan nearly forgot about the girl.
But hard times came.
Business slowed.
Bills piled up.
One morning, men in suits arrived with foreclosure papers.
“Today’s your final deadline,” they told him.
As Ethan stood outside his diner, a black SUV pulled into the parking lot.
A young woman stepped out holding an envelope.
“Calculate everything,” she said.
“I’ll pay every cent.”
Ethan stared in disbelief.
Then she handed him an old letter.
Inside was the sandwich wrapper he had given her years ago.
Tears filled his eyes.
“You kept your promise,” he whispered.
The woman smiled.
“You taught me how.”
The diner was saved, and Ethan finally learned that kindness always finds its way home.
