After eight long months overseas, Sergeant Ethan Carter finally returned home.
His family waited excitedly at the airport, expecting him to spend the day celebrating.
But Ethan had one stop to make first.
Still wearing his uniform, he drove to a quiet cemetery carrying a bouquet of red roses.
He walked through the rows of graves until he reached a small headstone.
Then he knelt down.
The name on the stone belonged to Noah Williams, his best friend and fellow soldier.
The two had grown up together and enlisted on the same day.
Before their final deployment, Noah made Ethan promise one thing.
“If I don’t make it back, visit me and tell me what I missed.”
For nearly an hour, Ethan sat beside the grave talking about home, family, and all the dreams Noah never got to see.
When he finally stood up, tears filled his eyes.
“A promise is a promise, brother.”
