After fourteen long months at war, Sergeant Michael Hayes was finally coming home.
He had survived everything.
The danger.
The fear.
The endless nights away from his family.
On the way home, he stopped at a toy store and bought a teddy bear for his daughter.
He couldn’t wait to see her smile.
Holding the bear tightly, he walked up to his front door and rang the bell.
His heart raced with excitement.
Then the door opened.
A stranger stood there.
Michael froze.
The teddy bear slipped from his hand and landed on the porch.
Before he could speak, the man turned toward the house and called out:
“Baby, someone’s at the door.”
Michael felt his stomach drop.
Moments later, his wife appeared behind the man.
The color instantly drained from her face.
“Michael…” she whispered.
Tears filled her eyes.
But before Michael could turn away, a little girl suddenly ran into view.
“Daddy!”
She threw her arms around him.
Then the truth came out.
The man wasn’t her new partner.
He was Michael’s brother, who had moved in to help after months of hardship while Michael was overseas.
And seconds later, Michael finally held his family again. โค๏ธ
